Our 10X44 front porch is like an extended living room. We have plenty places to sit and look at the scenery with the swing, six rocking chairs, and several straight chairs. Several times a week Jon and I eat on the porch at the small oak table Jon built about a year ago. The carriage lights that Cathy Morgan gave us help to brighten the west end of the porch. The barnwood porch hutch stands on the east end of the porch near Charlie, the chain saw bear, given to us by Keith Payne.
Jon and I invited the Hougie House Raising Crew to our finished home for a reunion. Wednesday, June 19, Jon's family members from Minnesota, Kathy and Jade Gandrud, and David Houglum were our first guest to arrive. Jon and I were still in the process of getting ready for the reunion. David helped Jon cut grass and Kathy helped me clean the cabin and make the beds for guest.
Friday night, Jon and I cooked Indian Frybread filled with chili/cheese or pepperoni pizza. We didn't make any fruit filled Frybread, because Winnie Black, my cousin from Cleveland, TN, brought eight different desserts. The carrot cake was the best I have ever eaten. I didn't have time to prepare desserts ahead of time, because I was too busy getting settled into the house. Winnie and Helen arrived Friday and stayed in the master bedroom. Jon and I were very comfortable in our box van.
Saturday morning Jimmy Hedden, our sawmill friend, arrived ready to smoke spareribs and chicken for the crew. He used his special seasoning and slow-cooked the ribs and chicken all day. Everyone is still talking about how good the ribs were. Winnie and Cheryl Vernon, our neighbor, helped me with dishes after the feast. The two cripples came to rescue me. Winnie is recovering from knee surgery and Cheryl has a bad back.
Front left photo: Mark and Elaine Brennen, from Rising Fawn, GA came just for the day. They were not here during the house raising week, but they came in August to help with the front basement wall. Dianna and Grant Wilson, from Lutz, FL, seated in the back, arrived Friday and stayed in the cabin.
Right photo: Helen Kennedy, my sister from Escatawpa, MS arrived Friday and shared the master bedroom with cousin Winnie. Bill Bashline from Springfield, KY arrived Friday and shared the sewing room with Judy, his wife. Bill and Judy came in August to help build the back entry and porch.
