HOUGIE HEAVEN HOME
June 2003

Since page 67 gives details about how we built our beds, I will not discuss the beds here.  The two quilts don't match, but the price was right.  I was fortunate enough to buy them at a yard sale that was just opening for business for a total of eleven dollars.  We bought the cedar chest on the left from our Amish friend and Jon built the other one, while we were living in Florida.  The table cloths that are hanging form the cedar chest were from Jon's Mother's collection.  I have used several scarves and even handkerchiefs from her collection for decorating.  The green cabinet in the corner conceals our television.  We bought the six foot door at an antique store, and Jon built the cabinet around the size of the door.

The red oak chest of drawers and jewelry chest are some of the pieces of furniture Jon built out of the freight car dunnage, while we lived in Florida.  The antique vanity is similar to the vanity my sister and I had in our bedroom, while we were growing up.  We got a good deal on this one at an antique store, where the booth owner was selling out.
My office/sewing room is my special space.  Jon's honey-do list has several pieces of furniture listed for this room.  My computer area will change someday, but not until we get a desk top computer.  The laptop computer will continue to be the one I do my bookkeeping with, since I can take it with me on the road trips.  The antique New Home Sewing Machine in the cabinet was given to me by Susie and Frankie.  Susie inherited it from her Mother, and wanted to give it a good home.  I feel honored to have it in my sewing room.  The Singer sewing machine on the chest of drawers was given to us by a teacher friend of Jon's.  The chest of drawers was given to us by John and Connie Giovanoni from Indiana.
While we lived in Florida, Jon built both sewing matching cabinets.  Next summer I should have time to sew several items from my sewing list .  The gas log fireplace will be extra heat, should I need it in the winter.  The super deal we got on the fireplace made it possible for me to have just what I had hoped for in my room.  The oak secretary is a reproduction of the one downstairs, that I inherited from my Mother.
