HOUGIE HEAVEN HOME
June 2003

The dining area and the kitchen are separated  with the black walnut sideboard facing the dining area and the black walnut dry/wet sink cabinet facing the kitchen.  The pitcher pump draws water from the 125 gallon tank in the basement.  Jon resurfaced the shallow white enamel sink, which we found in an abandoned house near our home.
All the pot shelves above the windows and door have rope lights connected to a switch, that can be turned on for soft atmosphere lights at night.  I have been collecting the Fiesta pitchers for several years.  Jon built the Red Oak cabinets above the sink in August 2001.  The doors are windows we took from an old house before it was demolished.  One of the windows  has bullet holes in the frame.  Jon finished the window/doors with white crackle.  The Red Oak base cabinets he built in April 2003.  The Red Oak slant-back hutch is a reproduction of the one we saw in the 1985 Country Living Magazine.  The Heartland four burner, propane range is the focal point of the kitchen.  We ordered the range from Canada.  The Hoosier cabinet is another one of Jon's creations.  It is my baking and appliance cabinet.  The coffee maker is concealed in the roll top section, while the microwave is concealed in the base cabinet to the right of the frig.
After Jon finished building the doors, he turned his attention to the pantry/laundry room. The tall white cabinet is the pantry.  He customized the red oak cabinets to fit our needs.  I did all the staining and finishing.

The red oak bathroom sink cabinet was one of the pieces Jon built December 2001.  We found a picture of one like this in an old Country Living Magazine.
The claw foot bathtub is the eye catcher in the downstairs bathroom.  The plumbing cost more than the tub, since Jon built two nice poplar camping boxes to trade for the tub.  The hunter green hutch Jon built found its resting place with the tub.  The small washboard cabinet makes a nice hand towel holder.  This is one of several washboard cabinets Jon has built.
