HOUGIE HEAVEN HOME
June 2003

Even though we slept in our new beds in our new house for the first time May 10, that doesn't mean we were completely moved in.  We left for a thirteen day business trip May 13.  Upon our return home, the move continued.  Joe and Mary Holland came and helped for a few days.  Joe helped Jon get some of the electrical and plumbing problems worked out, while Mary helped me pack and clean.  Everything that was stored in our sheds had to be cleaned and polished.

The photo on the left is of the back porch and the photo on the right is in the entry .  The western cedar walls and the 1930's Comstock-Castle Wood Cook Stove sets the atmosphere for our home.
We tested the Franklin Wood Stove during this last winter, while working in the house.  It will be plenty heat for us.  The blue cupboard is one that Jon built and placed in the Whistle Stop Antique Mall here in Franklin for sale.  We are glad it did not sell, because we like it in the living room.  Our Tiffany lamps and many of our special treasures were purchased with tip money from our business.
Jon and our son Terry built our living room furniture during the Christmas break in 1987, while I did the sewing for the cushions.  Jon plans to build a coffle table out of wormy chestnut some day to replace the little table. The pot shelves over the windows add a nice touch to the room.
During the time I worked on our house plans on the computer, I placed the mirror/shelf on the downstairs landing and Jon placed the telephone cabinet at the upstairs landing.  Having our house plans on the computer helped us see where our furniture would look the best.
The next four pages will be a walk through our new home, followed by two pages of photos taken during the Hougie Heaven House Raising Reunion.
