HOUGIE HEAVEN HOUSE RAISING
Wood Stoves
February 20, 2003
Jon and I negotiated a trade for a larger wood stove and an antique wood cook stove in exchange for four of Jon's oil paintings, with Janice and Andy Andersen, friends from our church.  Jimmy Hedden, loaded his tractor onto his trailer and took it to the Andersen's home to load the stoves into our trailer.  Joe Holland and Bill Vernon went along with Jon to help move the stoves.  Then Jimmy transported his tractor to our place for unloading the stoves.  Both entry doors had to be removed to get the stoves into the house.  The small stove weights almost as much as the large stove.
The larger wood stove looks much better on the hearth and definitely heats the house better.  It will be less work cutting firewood for the larger stove.  Jon and I are very thankful for our trade.
I contacted the Comstock-Castle Stove Company by e-mail asking for information on the Economy Z68-6 cook stove.  John R. Spake, the president of the company, identified the stove as being from the 1930s.  The stove adds a nice touch to our entry.
The photo on the left was taken April 8th, after the fourth coat of Polycrylic had dried on the floors and stairway.
