Joe and Mary Holland came Monday, February 17, to join in the fun of laying the pine flooring on the main floor.
Joe and Jon cut and sanded the boards, before Mary and I stained them. Jon marked the boards for the nails and Joe started the nails on the marks. Mary stood on the boards while, Jon finished hammering the nails in. Mary sat on the floor Thursday morning, while we waited for the men to return with the new wood stoves.
April 1 and 2 were cleaning days to prepare for finishing the trim on the doorways, the moldings, and the floors. Emily Lenski and Lynda Taylor came to my rescue. It would have taken more than two days, if I did all the cleaning by myself. We stated with the ceilings and worked our way to the floors. Just as I snapped the photo of Lynda, the hose fell off the attachment. We laughed.
Thursday and Friday, Jon and I finished the door trim and moldings with Polyurethane. Saturday I vacuumed and dusted each floor, before Jon applied the Minwax Polycrylic to the floors. He brushed the Polycrylic around the edges and mopped it on the rest of the surfaces. For the second coat, I worked the edges and Jon did the rest. Sunday afternoon we applied the third coat and Monday we applied the fourth coat. We found it went faster, when I poured the Polycrylic on the floor as Jon mopped it on. We were too busy to get more photos.
