After I finished painting the mop boards, Jon connected the toilets.  It seemed appropriate for me to be the first to sit on the throne.  The most remembered trips to the Taj-Ma-Hooter were made when my foot prints were frozen into the snow and ice January 2000, while I was home recovering from surgery.  Check out page 33 to see the foot prints in the snow.  I will surely appreciate the convenience of inside plumbing.
Left Photo:  The Red Oak Vanity, Jon built December 2001,  is in the main floor bathroom.  We found a picture of one like this in an old Country Living Magazine, and liked it's simple country feel.  We purchased the bathroom sinks in their original boxes, from a salvage yard in Asheville, NC, and the lights at a second hand shop in Georgia.  Jon has the plumbing completed for both bathroom sinks.
When Jon and I saw a picture of the original mustard yellow dry sink that is in the Shaker Museum in New Lebanon, NY, Jon told me he wanted to build one like it.  In December 2001 he built this vanity with  only a few exceptions, like the original.  Ours is made of a polar base and a hickory top.  This is in the upstairs bathroom with lights from Lowe's.
HOUGIE HEAVEN HOUSE RAISING
September 23-30, 2002, Continued
We negotiated trade with a Civil War Reenactor from Georgia for the claw foot bathtub.  It had sat outside for years and looked real bad.  I wore out two of Jon's buffing drill bits on the rust and paint on the outside and I used several different cleaners on the inside.  Jon sprayed two coats of primer and two coats of hunter green rustoleam paint on the outside, with sufficient drying time between coats.  After he finished spraying three coats of antique gold on the feet, Bill Vernon helped turn the tub upright for Jon to spray the inside with epoxy base paint.
Sunday, September 29, Bill and Cheryl came over to help move the tub into the bathroom.  After they left, Jon stretched out in the tub.  He says he forgot just how cold the tub can be.
