The Civil War Event In Helena, Ala. was canceled Sunday morning because of the flash flood. We were on high ground, but some of the soldiers who were camped beside the river lost everything. We packed up our canvas tents and contents in the rain Sunday morning. Needless to say we had to spread the canvas tents to dry and wash all the cloth covers, when we got home Monday. As soon as possible Jon started working in the house. The light fixtures and ceiling fans were some of the projects he tackled first. Tuesday I had several household chores to keep me busy, but Wednesday I started sealing the grout. This photo was taken on the 29th, while doing a touch up job.
It was exciting to watch Jon connect the carriage lights on the front porch. Cathy Morgan, a friend from Hull, Mass., gave them to us about a year ago for our porch. The glare on the glass makes it look like the lights are on. Jon replaced the broken glass with glass from an old window. The lights add a nice touch to the porch.
The Heartland 4 Burner Propane Range Is completely connected. We ordered the range from Canada and picked it up in Asheville, NC. The Hoosier Cabinet will be on the right and the Red Oak Slant-Back Cabinet to the left. Bill Vernon came to help move the range into place, after Jon got it assembled. Below is my favorite photo taken of my Grandmother Menasco in her kitchen washing dishes at her wood stove. I plan to hang the photo in our kitchen in her memory.
Painting two coats of polyurethane on the mop boards in the kitchen, bathrooms, pantry, entry, and under the stairway were among some of the jobs I did, while Jon was busy at other jobs.
