September 3, while visiting with Joe and Mary Holland before the Civil War Reenactment in Tunnel Hill, Georgia, we purchased our ceramic floor tiles from the Tile Source in Rocky Face, Georgia. The owner's father is a friend of Joe and Mary's. He gave us a special deal on the tile, and loaned us the tile cutter and all the tools necessary to lay the tile. He told his son that Joe Don Holland is a damn good friend and he would help any friend of Joe's. Since our next business trip would be in Helena, Alabama in a week, we unloaded our truck at Joe and Mary's and left our business trailer at the reenactment site. Our truck was loaded to the maximum weight it could haul.
Tuesday morning, after returning home from the reenactment, Jon started laying the backer board on the floors. Thursday he laid tiles on the hearth, the pantry floor, and the downstairs bathroom floor. Friday he laid the kitchen, and the back entry tiles. The photo on the lower right is the kitchen floor. My part of this job was to open the boxes of tiles, sort them, and spritz the backs with water, before handing them to Jon. He had never laid tile before, but he got the hang of it in a short time. The list of first time jobs is getting longer.
Jon moved the tile cutter from the living room to the back porch to work on the entry room floor. The 14 inch tiles for the entry room were prone to break at the end of the cut. We are thankful the other tile did not break like this tile.
Saturday we worked in the up-stairs bathroom and the closet under the stairway. Sunday we decided to have a fun day and hang the rock on the wood stove wall. Page 54 has photos of the rock job.
Monday Jon got all the tile grouted. Some areas started to dry faster than I could get the sponge job done, so Jon had to help me. We were rushing to get the job done before leaving on our trip to Helena, Alabama.
