Monday, August 19, Jon and I finished hanging the poplar boards on the walls upstairs. Tuesday, Jon started trimming out the windows with red oak. Sunday, August 25, Jon finished trimming the last two windows and the built the pot shelf under the stairway window. He built the mantel for the wood stove in the living room, as a fun project for the day.
This spring Jon got some evergreen shrub clippings from Joe and Mary Holland, Tunnel Hill, Georgia and put them into vermiculite for rooting. I potted the plants into larger pots in June. Much to our surprise everyone of the plants survived. Tuesday, August 20 I started the process of planting the plants around the new house.
When Anne volunteered to help me with weeding and mulching Tuesday morning, I was thrilled. She found that digging in the soil with rocks was much different than digging in Florida's sandy soil. She loves working outside and making a drab place look beautiful. The job was completed Tuesday evening and it was looking great.
Monday, August 26, Anne Garner and Kathy Ater. friends from Florida, drove up in a convertible with the top down. Shortly after their arrival we were blessed with a rain shower. It was is if they brought us the rain. I was thankful for the much needed rain and it helped me to see how the job I did along the patio would survive a rain. There were a couple of railroad ties that had to be moved just a little. I started to move the railroad ties and rocks to accommodate for the rain dripping off the house and Anne joined in, even though it meant getting wet. After the rain shower, I finished planting the plants on the north end of the driveway, edging with rocks, and mulching.
