Tuesday, July 30, Jeff Parrish and his helper spent the morning trenching for the electric cable, the phone cable, and the satellite coax from the west end of the house down to the electric pole. It was worth every penny spent on this job. We could have rented a trencher, but the roots and rocks were more than Jon wanted to deal with.
When we started the house raising, June 10, 2001, we had six stacks of boards Jon and I had harvested for building our house. You can see in the top left photo that there is one and one third stacks left. The shorter stack is poplar boards we are using on the anterior walls. Jon and I finished planing and sanding the poplar boards August, 20. The taller stack is oak boards we will use for the stairs, the upstairs landing, the kitchen cabinets, and some flooring.
When Jeff was working on the water line trench, he was careful not to harm the flowers. I had moved the rocks that were used for steps to the driveway edge. We will replace rock steps with pressure treated steps.
July 12, Kale Vernon, a neighbor and friend, assisted Jon in moving the stack of beams back to the deck for temporary storage. The beams were too heavy for me to lift. After moving the railroad ties, Kale decided he didn't want any part of helping Jon move the 400 pound wood stove into the basement. He thought that would be a job for his Dad to help with instead.
