HOUGIE HEAVEN HOUSE RAISING
Wall Finishing, July 15, 2002
Monday, July 15, Jon and I sanded boards for the walls  Jon' moved his 24 inch Grizzly drum sander outside the workshop on the cement slab.  As we sanded the boards, I placed them into the back of our van for transporting them up to the house.
We didn't have heat resistant duck tape for holding the end of the sanding belt, which caused lots of problems.  We improvised with the tape we had on hand.  When the tape got hot it would stretch and the belt would loosen.  Jon became proficient in taking the top off and tightening the belt.
Lottie Pickett, our friend who lives across the road, took these two photos of Jon and I working together, in the afternoon.  The white long sleeve shirts were to protect our skin from the sun, not because it was cold.  Before the day was over, we had finished sanding all the boards Jon had planed and stacked.

The first walls to be finished were in the back entry.  Saturday, July 13, Jon hung Western cedar boards on the East and West walls and pine boards on the North and South walls.  The cedar boards we purchased from a friend, who had them in a display.  There was just enough for two walls.  The aroma definitely is country.  The Shaker style shelf with pegs  and the rustic bench were fun projects Jon built Sunday.  The bench top is the leftover part of the beam at the head of the stairway.
