HOUGIE HEAVEN HOUSE RAISING
Drywall Texturing, July 3-4, 2002
Justin Atcheson, instructed Jon on how to use the hopper to texture the walls and ceilings, and how to use the magic wand to knock down the texture for the Spanish Lace effect.  Jon became very proficient at operating the hopper and the magic wound.  In the photo on the lower right, Jon is using the wound.  It is a wide thin plastic spatula or scraper.
After Cody Barnes finished hanging the drywall, he and Justin Atcheson, his boss, suggested that we texture the ceilings and walls to help conceal flows caused by using the uneven rough cut lumber.  Cody needed a texture hopper and a half inch drill for mixing the joint compound to add to his tools.  He said he would help Jon do the texturing and knock down, in trade for a hopper and a drill.  We purchased them for Cody as planned.  However; Cody chose to show up for the finishing job whenever he felt like it.  We were pleased with the quality of his work, but he became undependable.  He and Justin had a disagreement and Cody never showed up for work again.
The natural light from the window in the stairway was real bright.  In the areas where it was too dark, I held a light for Jon.  He worked on a platform in the stairway on the second story.  It is good that he had enough light, because there wasn't enough room for the two of us on the platform.
Doing the knock down takes a light touch.  Jon has artist hands and he could do it better than I could.  Besides he needed me to hold the light and cover the windows and doorways.  I think he enjoyed texturing me.  After the texturing was completed, it was my job to scrape the floors and any other surface needed.
Justin commented that he has had men working for him for 3 years that couldn't do the texturing as good as Jon.  He commented that Jon did a perfect job on most of the walls.
