Randy Emory and his crew arrived early Tuesday morning, July 2, to prepare the basement and the front patio for pouring the cement. They had everything ready, when the first cement truck arrived. Everyone had a specific task and they worked steady, until the job was done. It took three cement truck loads to cover the area.
When Alan Blakley prepared our hillside for the house site, he recommended that we have a basement instead of building with the lay of the land. At that point Jon and I were seeing dollar signs and chose to wait on pouring the basement. It wasn't until recently that we decided to finish the basement and use half of the space for Jon's work shop. Alan recommended Bobby Browning for the foundation work and Bobby recommended Randy Emory for the basement job. All the recommendations have proved to be good ones.
Just watching the men work, made my back hurt. There is allot of bending to get the cement worked in and smooth. The basement became very hot as the cement started to cure.
Our son, Terry, in the dark green shirt, watched every step. Jon had the camcorder on for each step of the process. Jon and Terry spent the day relaxing. They both work hard and have very little time to watch someone else work.
After the cement started to set, Randy went over the cement with a propeller type machine to smooth the surface. He did this three times, with a waiting time of about 20 minutes between each process. Tuesday morning Jon spread a sealer on the entire surface. We are very pleased with the results.
