HOUGIE HEAVEN HOUSE RAISING
FRONT PORCH ROOF FINISHED AUGUST, 4-5
It was eight weeks ago the house raising started.
Saturday, August 4, Keith came to help Jon add the front porch roof. Keith took on the job of trimming tops of some of the boards to make room for the ledger. They cut all the rafters to length, then went to work setting them. Jimmy Hedden supplied us with poplar and pine 2X8 boards for the rafters. The poplar rafters look exceptionally nice.
Jon, Keith and I carried the metal roofing and stacked it on the ground below the West end of the house. Jon tied the vice grip to a rope and lowered them down to me. I clamped them to the metal roofing, and he pulled up on the rope, while I lifted the other end. Once he got it on top, he carried it and put it into place. Keith was ready to receive the metal and screwed it down. The photo on the left shows Jon and Keith working on the last sheet of metal. The photo on the right was taken after they had set the front door.
The photo on the right was taken from the cemetery on the hillside across the way. Since my camera was in for repair, Keith brought her camera for me to use. I was not familiar with her camera, therefore the photos are not the best. Page 22 shows photos I took with my camera August 6.
