HOUGIE HEAVEN HOUSE RAISING
STAIRWAY, FLOOR JOISTS, AND PORCH FLOOR JUNE 12, Day Three
The 4X8X16 feet beams were cut to lengths of 14 feet by Frank.  Grant, Frank, and Kathy lifted the beams up to Steve and Gerry, who placed them.   To make the beams level they had to be notched or shimmed.  Hoyt Thomas, the sawmill sawyer, doesn't do  a precise job of cutting.  These beams are the floor joists for the second floor and they are exposed on the first floor.
Gerry was done with the construction of the stairs by noon.   Jon and I are thankful he did such a nice job.
The porch crew had the porch flooring all layed, and the house construction crew had the floor joist completed before quitting time.  The evening was spent around the campfire with music.
The two photos below were taken by Bruce Taylor at noon.
