During the summer of 1993, Jon and I vacationed in Otto, NC. We camped in our 16 foot teepee by the beautiful creek at Wolfgang and Donna Pelican's home. We had a teepee party for their friends. It was there we met a real estate agent, who took a real interest, when Jon mentioned that someday we would like to own property in the area. We didn't plan to buy property until Joshua, our youngest child graduated from High School. We looked at several pieces of property and a few houses. Within just a few days we signed a contract with Lois Boggan to buy her parents farm house on 8 acres, with a three room outbuilding, which was a part of the original home place. June 1996 we sold our home in Florida. The day after Joshua graduated, Jon and I moved to Franklin, NC.
When 911 Service contacted us about naming our lane, Jon chose Hougie Heaven Lane. We call our place Hougie Heaven. A teacher friend in a letter July 1996, mentioned she knew we were happy at Hougie Heaven. At that point we had not named our place, and it had a certain sound that we liked.
